Soaked My Head

You know how you get to the water's edge, and the water is freezing cold, and getting wet seems best done a tiny bit at a time? And then, the inch-by-inch approach turns out to be prolonged painful torture so you just dive in?

Finally soaked my head today.

LOL, Just saw a movie with that scene in it! This is so cheerful and bright - lovely! And I am glued to that bit of broken vase, and how the blooms are tumbling out as well. I want to stick my nose i each bud, and take in their sweet scent :)

Sheila, fun to have your eye be drawn to the out-of-the-box (vase!) elements in this composition. I hadn't thought about that aspect till now, and it seems to reflect the process with this painting which felt broken and wind-tossed more than once! Glad the blossoms are pulling you in to breathe deeply of their scent.

Another LOVE! I agree with Sheila...the broken bit of vase is mesmerizing! And curious minds want to know, exactly where did you soak your head today?

Good morning, Jen! Love that the broken bit of vase is mesmerizing—fun for me to get that feedback b/c that bit reflects me more truly and spontaneously than many other aspects of the process did with this painting. (1) I needed a way to make some angles in the composition please me so I tore off part of that collage paper; (2) then I needed to balance some of the 'weight' in the composition, and since I hate wasting ANYthing, that little torn scrap suddenly offered itself as a solution.

The 'soaking my head' expression is one that pops up every summer when my friend N. goes swimming in the frigid waters at a nearby beach while I usually only get my feet wet, decide I'm plenty cool enough, and walk the beach instead. I used the expression in my post metaphorically to indicate that I finally got sick of inching along with this painting, which bedeviled me more than once, so I plunged in head first to finish it.

I love diving in head first, realistically and metaphorically. Love the flowers within the flowers... and the opposite angles the make with the vase. Love the green and purple combination!!!

Thanks for your observations, Carol! Love that you see flowers within the flowers, and the varied angles in this piece. The green and purple—happily—insisted on being together despite other plans I had en route. This painting was a challenge, with the opposition of planning and letting go which drove me crazy more than once, but I suspect that the inherent tension of that opposition is what calls me to keep on painting!
